When is an Environmental Impact Assessment required in Kenya?

In Kenya, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA 1999) for projects listed in the Second Schedule, including infrastructure development, mining, manufacturing, and large-scale agriculture. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) oversees the EIA process, and projects cannot proceed without an approved EIA license.
